WordPress security project that was aimed at eliminating all malware, vulnerabilities, and making the website safe again.
About This Project
In this project, the security and sanitization of a WordPress website was done because of malicious code insertions and backdoors created by a third-party developer on behalf of the client. The website owner detected various suspicious activities in the form of strange website behavior and unauthorized access through different accounts.
To start with, an in-depth security investigation was done which involved checking the website for any malicious code using specialized malware scanning tools as well as manual analysis and other server-level checks. In addition, any malware was eliminated from the website, and the site was sanitized to protect the client from any further security threats.

- Performed full malware scan using professional security solutions
- Carried out manual checks for PHP, JavaScript and .htaccess codes
- Removed any obfuscated malware found in WordPress core files
- Purged and restored theme and plugin files that were infected
- Secured wp-config.php file and generated new authentication salts
- Cleaned up .htaccess file and eliminated all malicious redirects
- Eliminated unauthorized administrator accounts from the database

The scheduling issues with the automated tasks within WordPress were resolved by implementing a dedicated server cron job setup that would allow the automated processes to run reliably.
Troubleshot email delivery failures, reconfigured SMTP settings and resolved conflicts in current mail configuration. This so resulted in emails generated by the website being delivered successfully again.
Done a complete security clean-up after malware was found on the website. We deleted infected files, patched vulnerabilities and upgraded system components to get back to a secure environment.
